Earthworks Begin
In January, 2019 we undertook one of our longest running, remote projects at Disney Station, Clermont, North Queensland. Disney is located 140km from the closest town. The scope of this project required us to mobilise our own camp facilities, as well as camp cooks to house and sustain our team for almost two years.
Build Up
With most remote projects, something that starts as a small idea, quickly evolves into a much larger dream once we start work. The scope of works quickly evolved at Disney to incorporate:
- Rebattering of existing dam top and inside batter for roughly 2500 metres – total wall lengths, built from material on inside of dam;
- New ring tank to South of existing dam – total wall distance of 2200 metres. Total metres of 425,000 cubic metres;
- 11 x Stock dam desilting projects from general desilt to complete build of existing dam to increase water capacity using scrapers;
- Construction of 1500 metre supply channel for pivot irrigation;
- 4 x 250 acre pivot paddocks levelled and drained as required;
- Construction of 5 x turkeys nest dams for cattle water
Earthworks Well Underway
We mobilised a number of machinery for this project:
- 2 x Caterpillar 627G Scrapers;
- 1 x Caterpillar 623G Scraper;
- 1 x Caterpillar 815 Compactor;
- 1 x 30,000L Caterpillar Moxy Cart;
- 1 x Case Tractor & Laser Bucket.
Over the project period, we had 6 full time staff on site, as well as our camp cooks.
Project Completed
After almost two years on site, the team was able to sit back and enjoy a sunset and admire the result of their hard work.
A number of our staff continued on at the property next door when we were offered a new contract at the completion of this project.
