Gore Earthmoving Kicks Off 2025
Our first day back for the working year was held on Monday 6th January, 2025. We spend day 1 of every year ensuring our team has the tools, knowledge and support to make every day at Gore safe & productive and produce outcomes of the highest quality.
This year the theme of the day was ‘TEAMWORK’ – At Gore, we foster and encourage our employees to embrace the Gore Culture and our strong teamwork emphasis. This year’s theme was inspired by our mixed netball team. Every week we’d arrive at work after game day and there’d be a fantastic inspirational message on the staffroom whiteboard from our very own Des Cowley (Apprentice Diesel Mechanic) “Head up Kings & Queens, we’ll get ’em next time!” We used Des’ words of inspiration and built our theme around them (see picture of Des’ other inspirational quotes).
We started our day with a focus on our safety framework – this is our Number 1 priority, day in, day out. We touched on what’s in store for 2025 and the exciting developments we’ve been working on in the background.
We had a quiz on fellow workmates – an insightful and fun exercise and then we whipped out some puzzles (custom made of Gore machinery in action). At this point we received some confused looks. What have puzzles got to do with earthmoving? How could this possibly relate to our mechanic’s rebuilding a scraper motor? Why would a truck driver waste his time doing a puzzle when he could be out there window down, hair feeling the breeze, listening to the radio, doing what he loves? Good questions – all of them!
This task wasn’t about doing a puzzle and having a ‘brain break’, it was a task set out to see how the teams worked together on a task that was thrown at them last minute. How did teammates who are never usually on the same ‘team’ slot in and work together with no notice? How did they attack the task? Was there a clear leader of the group? Did they even have a plan? When they finished (and this was the important one) did they go and help other teams to finish their ‘job’? The puzzle task was never about ‘winners & losers’ it was about the Gore Culture and the whole team passed with flying colours.
Bring on 2025! It’s time to shift some dirt!
